Review: FLORENCE FOSTER JENKINS

By Renee’ Collins

Rating: 5 (Out of 5 Reels)

This film is the story of Florence Foster Jenkins (Meryl Streep), a New York heiress who dreamed of becoming an opera singer, despite having a terrible singing voice (IMDB).

Jenkins lives in a bubble of friends and loved ones who absolutely love music and protect her from the world in general. The bubble works so well that when Jenkins begins to sing and subsequently decides to perform because of her love of music no-one will tell her she is not really up to the task.

It honestly seems that Streep can do no wrong when comes to character acting. Sure the audience doesn’t know what Jenkins was like in real life but Streep delivers an all-encompassing and thoughtful performance which is what makes her such a tremendous actor. Add a supporting cast of great actors and what we have here is a great film.
