Review: HELL OR HIGH WATER

Rating: 5 (Out of 5 Reels)

A divorced dad (Chris Pine) and his ex-con brother (Ben Foster) resort to a desperate scheme in order to save their family’s farm in West Texas (IMDB).

This film is intelligently written and acted because the characters have depth which draws the viewer into the film unexpectedly. Ben Foster as Tanner Howard, Chris Pine as Toby Howard, Gil Birmingham as Alberto Parker and Jeff Bridges as Marcus Hamilton are all fantastic character actors and are perfectly cast in their roles.  The silence in this film speaks volumes about the characters and their plight.  This film is a battle between two brothers desperately trying to save their family farm and two Texas Rangers trying to stop them.

The brothers come up with brilliant plan to save the family farm. The plan is not what it seems initially and when the true outcome is revealed it takes this film via the writing to another unexpected level.  There are no special effects here and there doesn’t need to be.  What we have here is an excellently written and acted film that should not be missed.
