SXSW 2015 Film Review: EX MACHINA

By Meagan Trautman

Rating: 4/5

Ex Machina is a movie about A.I.s, and blurring the line between humans and the technology we create. The movie seems to center around Caleb (Domhnall Gleeson), a programmer from the popular search engine of the movie: bluebook. He comes to his employer’s (Oscar Issac’s character’s) estate and is greeted with the opportunity to meet his boss’ newest invention. an Artificial Intelligence, named Ava (played by Alicia Vikander). The entirety of the movie forces me to question my logical thinking of how the movie’s storyline works. It forces you to turn your mind around, and ultimately you can’t. It makes for  surprisingly entertaining actually. With the gentle twist ending, and storyline designed to confuse, I have to say the movie was very good. the actors were on point and always one step ahead of one another.
