SXSW 2019 Review: PINK WALL

By Mark Saldana

Rating: 3.5 (Out of 4 Stars)

One of my favorite films at SXSW this year is this intimate glimpse into the life of a romatic relationship. Writer/director Tom Cullen tells the story of Jenna (Tatiana Massey) and Leon (Jay Duplass) through six different scenes, detailing six key moments in their relationship. From their very first meeting, the audience gets to witness the highs and lows, and experiences the evolution and de-evolution of a once passionate and loving romance.

Filmmaker Tom Cullen does a tremendous job of presenting this story. His intimate and minimalist approach focuses mainly on the two main characters and makes the audience feel like eyewitnesses to some amazing and heartbreaking moments shared by these protagonists. Working off of Cullen’s wonderful script, both Tatiana Massey and Jay Duplass give transcendent performances that feel true to life. This is a no-frills, indie film full of love, emotion, and realism.
