Film News: Austin’s Consulate General of Mexico offers Third Thursday Free Film Evening

CineClub México is a new initiative aimed at promoting Mexican cinema in Austin, TX. On the third Thursday of every month, a Mexican film will be screened and an expert of the film’s topic will be invited to have a conversation about it after the screening. Snacks and wine will be provided. This month it will be on February 21st from 6:30pm – 9:30 pm.  

It’s a free event held monthly at the Consulate General of Mexico headquarters in Austin, 5202 E Ben White Blvd, Suite 150 (78741). RSVP is requested.

CineClub México’s February screening is “La pasión según Berenice” – “The passion of Berenice” (1976) “The passion of Berenice” is a 1976 film written and directed by Jaime Humberto Hermosillo. It was also written by one of Mexico’s most distinguished and prolific writers of all time, José Emilio Pacheco. It is an Ariel Award winning film.

The special guest will be one of Austin’s most important film industry experts, Chale Nafus. He is a founding member of the Austin Film Society (AFS) and was its Director of Programming for over 12 years.  He also established the film program at Austin Community College.
