Review: GOODBYE CHRISTOPHER ROBIN

By Renee’ C.

Rating: 4.5 (Out of 5 Reels)

A rare glimpse into the relationship between beloved children’s author A. A. Milne (Domhnall Gleeson) and his son Christopher Robin (Will Tilston & Alex Lawther), whose toys inspired the magical world of Winnie the Pooh (IMDB).

Alan, a successful playwright, and wife Daphne (Margot Robbie) live comfortably in London but he longs for the quiet life in the country. Somehow, Alan convinces Daphne to move to the country and while spending time in the woods, son Christopher, helps him develop the story and characters of the Winnie the Pooh series.

This film is an example of spectacularly written and acted storytelling. I especially liked the heavily dimpled and extremely cute Will Tilston as the young Robin because he steals the show in many scenes. He is smart, honest and is not afraid to speak his mind even to his parents.

Expertly interwoven visual effects happen throughout the story, which helps the viewer understand what happened to Milne during the war and how it continues to affect him in the present day.

If extremely interesting and entertaining period pieces interest you then this film is highly recommended.
